This year, GCC’s Summer Mission Trip, which takes place in late July, will take youth to Blue Knob, PA where they will assist families with repairs to their homes. Anticipated projects include painting, home repair, roofing and building wheelchair ramps.
In addition to work, GCC Youth Director Scott Hodsdon said there is time for the youth to have fun. “Our check-in day is July 24, but we will leave a couple days early so we can camp, do some shopping, and share some bonding time before we get to work,” he said. “In total, we will work 8 hours a day for four days, so we expect to accomplish a lot.”
This year’s GCC Summer Mission Trip is particularly meaningful, according to Hodsdon, as Blue Knob, Pa is the site of a past mission. He said this year is also the first time since 2019 they have been able to organize a Summer Mission Trip due to the COVID-19 pandemic. “We are grateful we can host this trip, this year,” he added. “As a church, it’s so important we create opportunities for young people to experience for themselves the sense of care and compassion we discuss in sermons and our programs.”
