Recently, Gilford Community Church (GCC) received a $500,000 legacy gift from the estate of Dick and Betty Persons. Active in the community before their passing – Dick in 2021 and Betty in 2014, the Persons made a substantial gift to support the construction of Gilford Public Library and formed Ramblin’ Vewe Farm Trust in Gilford.

“We are so thankful for this unrestricted gift, which will enable us to continue our philanthropic work throughout the surrounding communities,” noted Pastor Michael Graham. “I did not know Dick and Betty well, but the church certainly shares their commitment to Gilford, which is why I think this gift has been made.”

As a result of their gift, Dick and Betty Persons will be inaugural members of GCC’s newly formed 1798 Society. “The Society is our way of recognizing and thanking those who have elected to make a lasting difference through a planned gift,” said GCC member Alexandra Breed, one of several individuals who conceived the idea.

As for its use, Graham said the gift from Dick and Betty Persons will support a number of GCC initiatives, some of which includes Gilford Got Lunch and One Community Project (OCP).

“We also award grants to local nonprofits and work creatively with a number of organizations to meet needs in the community,” explained Graham. “Regardless of your religion, age, or any other characteristic, our church is an inclusive and open community for all.”

Located in Gilford at 19 Potter Hill Rd, Gilford Community Church (GCC) welcomes believers and doubters, seekers and skeptics, young and old. To learn more about GCC, or the 1798 Society, contact Pastor Michael Graham.
