The holidays are busy for Gilford Community Church (GCC), which hosts events throughout December, beginning with its Annual Christmas Fair on Friday, Dec. 1 from 4:00 p.m to 6:00 p.m and and Saturday, Dec. 2 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

At the fair, shoppers can expect to find everything from cookware and glasses to tools and Christmas greens and wreaths. “There will also be some baked goods and, of course, some jewelry,” said Steven Melbourne, chair of the Christmas Fair. “We also have some linens and toys. It is so much fun to look for bargain items.”

On Sunday, Dec. 3, 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., GCC will host its Annual Tree Lighting Service, which will include singing of carols followed by a brief service led by their youth. After the service, cookies and hot chocolate will be served in GCC’s fellowship hall.

Gilford Community Church Christmas Pageant
On Saturday, Dec. 9, 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., GCC will participate in the town of Gilford’s Annual Candlelight Stroll. “We will have a tent with a few outdoor carnival games and small prizes during the stroll,” said GCC Youth Director Amber McLane. On Sunday, Dec. 17 at 10:00 a.m., children of the congregation will perform GCC’s annual Christmas Pageant.

According to GCC Pastor Michael Graham, the holidays serve as a reminder as to why these days are celebrated. “Thanksgiving nudges us to live a more grateful life while Christmas reminds us that even in life’s darkest seasons there are flickers of light,” he said. "Our various holiday events allow us space to connect with others outside of a Sunday morning in many differing, meaningful ways."

Located in Gilford at 19 Potter Hill Rd, Gilford Community Church (GCC) is an inclusive, open community that welcomes believers and doubters, seekers and skeptics, young and old. Recently, Gilford Community Church (GCC) completed The Art of Community, a congregation-wide project that resulted in a mural composed of individual quarter-circles colored and designed by members. According to GCC Youth Director Amber McLane, the project is part of a broader effort to  encourage youth and adults to get to know each other and strengthen the church through community building activities. “One of my goals this year is to continue to promote interaction among adults and children and build community within the church among all ages,” she said.

GCC Pastor Michael Graham believes projects like The Art of Community will also attract new members. “I think people are drawn to community building projects where all are included,” she said. “My hope is that community members will hear about this and other related projects and become interested in GCC.”
Regarding the project itself, McLane said “it brought together a sense of community” for the entire congregation. “Tom Meierjurgen built a beautiful frame, and it is now displayed in our fellowship hall,” she added. “I want to thank everyone who participated. Every circle is unique and creative– and it shows that when we put our community talents together, we can make beautiful masterpieces."

On Friday, Nov. 17 at 6:00 p.m., Gilford Community Church (GCC) will host Gals’ Night Out with music from the Bel Airs, who perform Doo Wop and Vintage Rock 'N' Roll. Men are also invited to the event, which includes a catered dinner. “I won't be surprised if some dancing takes place,” said Kathleen Merriam, who manages GCC’s Gals’ Night Out events.

According to Event Co-Chair Katherine Meierjurgen, Gals’ Night Out was “a great way” for her to meet people when she was new to the community. “The programs are interesting and informative, dinner is always delicious, and the company is delightful.”

Gals’ Night Out events also serve the interests of philanthropy, as attendees are encouraged to bring items in support of New Beginnings, the only domestic and sexual violence crisis center serving Belknap County. These items include laundry detergent, Diapers sizes (4, 5 and 6), trash bags, paper towels, toilet paper, hair brushes, and hair conditioner.

Tickets for Gals’ Night Out are $25 and may be purchased at the GCC administrative offices at 19 Potter Hill Rd. in Gilford. For those with questions, call (603) 524-6057.

Future Gals’ Night Out events include January 19, 2024 (Squam Lake Science Center), March 8, 2024 (Sheryl Faye will roleplay as Queen Elizabeth or Abigail Adams), and May 17, 2024 (The Powerchords will sing Broadway).
