Recently, Gilford Community Church (GCC) completed The Art of Community, a congregation-wide project that resulted in a mural composed of individual quarter-circles colored and designed by members. According to GCC Youth Director Amber McLane, the project is part of a broader effort to encourage youth and adults to get to know each other and strengthen the church through community building activities. “One of my goals this year is to continue to promote interaction among adults and children and build community within the church among all ages,” she said.
GCC Pastor Michael Graham believes projects like The Art of Community will also attract new members. “I think people are drawn to community building projects where all are included,” she said. “My hope is that community members will hear about this and other related projects and become interested in GCC.”

Regarding the project itself, McLane said “it brought together a sense of community” for the entire congregation. “Tom Meierjurgen built a beautiful frame, and it is now displayed in our fellowship hall,” she added. “I want to thank everyone who participated. Every circle is unique and creative– and it shows that when we put our community talents together, we can make beautiful masterpieces."
