The Finance Committee has the overall responsibility for the financial life of the church and the oversight of all financial affairs. The committee leads stewardship activity along with the pastor and organizes and presents the Annual Pledge Drive, educating the congregation on the pledging process, as well as planned giving. The Finance Committee promotes various fundraisers needed to fund church repairs or renovation.
The Finance Committee manages monthly finances with our volunteer treasurer, our employed (one day a week) financial accountant, and the volunteer financial secretary. The committee coordinates any long-term contracts that commit GCC and they make sure that financial needs are met. The committee manages our Investment Portfolio with our professional Financial Advisor (Morgan Stanley), makes investment policy recommendations to the Church Council for approval, and develops sound financial management policies and procedures to ensure that responsible financial procedures are followed.
The Finance Committee authorizes and directs the church treasurer as to the disbursement of funds, and prior to the Annual Meeting, requests each committee to submit a proposed budget for the coming year. Once the budget is submitted to and approved by the Church Council, the committee presents the next year's proposed budget to the church membership every year at the Faith Proposal meeting the last Sunday in October. The budget is finalized and then voted upon by the congregation at the Annual Meeting held on the last Sunday of January.
