Members of the Membership Committee are the public relations people for the church. They attempt to identify newcomers at worship and to make them feel welcome. They plan a “Meet and Greet" several times during the year to inform newcomers about our church and to offer them the opportunity to ask questions, or to join the church if they so desire.
When a family decides to join the church, the committee is responsible for getting their paperwork and information to the church secretary, and being present at worship to welcome them into our church family. Pictures of each new member are submitted to the church secretary for her to display on the church bulletin board in Fellowship Hall.
The Membership Committee works to integrate current members into the life of the congregation. It is the responsibility of the committee to work with the pastor to nominate possible committee chairpersons (approved and voted upon at the Faith Proposal meeting at the end of October) and then their responsibility to recruit, along with the committee chairs, members for the various committees of the church. A list of newly nominated committee members is presented to the congregation for approval during the Annual Meeting at the end of January.
The New Member Notebooks that are handed out at Meet and Greet events fall under the committees's jurisdiction, as well. With the secretary of the church, the committee works on updating the information in these packets and making sure there are enough to pass out at each Meet and Greet.
The Church Directory and the church database are occasionally examined, to keep it current and to maintain contact with those participants in the church whose attendance may be waning.
The Welcome Packets in the church lobby are updated and kept in supply by our committee (with the help of the church secretary.) The committee is occasionally called upon to cut, organize and assemble these packets.
Once a year, the committee coordinates and hosts a party to which new member are invited to attend. The purpose of the party is to provide the opportunity for the new members to fellowship with each other, as well as to become acquainted with the church staff and church committee chairs. The church secretary helps the committee with the invitations and the RSVP’s to the invitations.
